What is a Celebrant?

A Celebrant is an independent person who will lead a ceremony according to your wishes. As a celebrant I am non-judgmental. I do not discriminate between race, religion, gender, sexuality or age. The ceremony can be anywhere you wish, as long as you have the owner’s permission.

A Celebrant led Wedding Ceremony does not have the limitations that are imposed by registrars. A Celebrant will create a bespoke ceremony that reflects the couple and their wishes. Music, readings, rituals, symbolic elements, promises can all be included.

Is there a difference between a Civil Ceremony and Celebrant led Wedding Ceremony?

The short answer is yes. A civil ceremony is performed by a registrar either in a registry office or at a licensed (for weddings) venue. They are both non-religious but have big differences. A Civil Ceremony is legally recognised, but are bound by restrictions regarding words spoken, music and how it takes place.

Please contact your local Register Office for more information.

Can we write our own vows?

Yes absolutely, it is lovely when a couple can speak to each other from the heart. But not compulsory, if you do not want to write your own, we can keep it simple. One of the joys of a Celebrant led ceremony is listening to the couples’ stories and there heartfelt promises (vows) to each other. After listening to your story and reading the answers to the questionnaire you will be sent, we will create a unique ceremony to include your story, we can discuss other elements that could include rituals, symbolic acts, as well as vows.

We can discuss your vows, if you don’t want vows, that’s fine to. This is your ceremony.

Is a Celebrant led Ceremony legally binding?

Unlike Scotland and Norther Ireland, Celebrant led weddings are not yet recognised in law in England and Wales on their own. We are very hopeful that this will change in the future. In fact, this could change in the next few years, as it has been recommend to the Law Commission as part of the Wedding Law Reform that Officiant/Celebrant led ceremonies rather than the location be licensed. For now, Celebrant led ceremonies remain symbolic. To be recognised in law in England and Wales, a registration of marriage must take place, this is normally done at a Registry Office, this can be done before or after a Celebrant led ceremony.

If the venue does have a Licence, then a Registrar is an option, however the ceremony may have limits in choice of wording, music and how it takes place.

Please contact your local Register Office for more information.

Is a Humanist Celebrant the same as an Independent Celebrant?

No. Humanist ceremonies are always non-religious based on atheism. Independent Celebrant ceremonies are more flexible, and can include religious/spiritual elements if wished. A Celebrant led ceremony is uniquely delivered personalised to the couples wishes. There are no limitations and do not discriminate. Religious aspects can be added dependant on the couples beliefs.

Where can I have a Celebrant led Ceremony?

Indoors, outdoors, up a lamp post (only kidding!) virtually anywhere as long as you have the landowners/venues permission.

What are the costs of a Celebrant led Ceremony?

Prices vary dependant on the ceremony required. Please check under the ceremony required on the website. If there is no price shown at this time, please contact me through hello@fionawrightcelebrant.co.uk.

Can’t wait to talk, talking is free, and there is no obligation to book.

What area do you cover?

My local area is North East Lincolnshire, but I am willing to travel. There will be an extra cost involved if the mileage is over 40 miles at a rate of £0.45 per mile from DN35. Overseas weddings are also covered for an extra cost. I love to travel so if you are planning a destination wedding, then my suitcase is packed and I am coming with you!

Am I the right fit for your ceremony?

Only you can answer this answer, I would like to be. We can have a free consultation, normally done face to face if in my local area, or via Zoom/Teams. We can discuss your ideas and what I can offer you. Then you are free to decide if you wish to take things further!

I can’t wait to hear your ideas.
